CBCI Telecom was created in 1988 by Mr. Jeff Speak. Mr. Speak used to work for Crowntech and created an entity within the company named Crowntech Business Center Incorporated. CBCI was born. With the growing popularity of mobile phones, CBCI bought Mobilité Canada and specialized in cellular phones until the early 90s. Then, to push further the possibility of communicating, as to duplicate the face to face meeting, CBCI Telecom sought after emerging technologies and associated with British Telecom to create BTBI (British Telecom Visual Images). With both telecom and videoconferencing activities, in 1995 CBCI Telecom ranked the 5th largest worldwide videoconferencing manufacturer. At that time, CBCI Telecom had 5 offices in Canada and 11 in the US.
TANDBERG, a Norwegian company, in search of branching out in the North American videoconferencing market, bought CBCI Telecom. After a year, Jeff Speak bought back the name CBCI Telecom and the wireless division to create in 1999 CBCI Telecom Canada Inc. The company made a comeback into videoconferencing, but this time as a reseller of TANDBERG videoconferencing systems, mainly because Jeff Speak strongly believed in the future of videoconferencing. In 2002, CBCI Telecom Canada Inc. won the first TANDBERG Award for Best Canadian Partner of the Year, and then for the following 8 years. Since 2010, and in the last 3 consecutive years, CBCI Telecom was awarded the Cisco Canadian Business Video Partner of the year, as TANDBERG was bought by Cisco Systems. CBCI Telecom is today a Cisco TelePresence Master.
